Rowan Helping Ministries
puts God's Love into Action through the Crisis Assistance Network,
Soup Kitchen, Overnight Shelter, and Eagle's Nest.
Crisis Assistance Network
CAN's objectives are to give
spiritual and emotional support to clients while their crisis is
being identified and solutions are being sought. This program
gives assistance with basic emergency needs such as food, utilities,
housing, medicine and clothing. The assistance moves
individuals and families towards independence.
Food Pantry
The unemployed and
underemployed find grocery assistance to be one of the best ways to
make ends meet. Food is donated from a variety of sources such
as churches, local grocery stores, USDA and individuals to assist
those in need.
Clothing Center
Many individuals who can
afford to pay their rent, utilities or buy groceries cannot afford
to buy clothes. The Clothing Center distributes clothing from
infants to plus sizes to individuals in need. Surplus items
are shared with the Salvation Army.
Soup Kitchen
Volunteers who work in the
soup kitchen offer a hot, full course noon meal 365 days a year.
For some it may be the only meal they receive that day. Each
Sunday, God's Table provides a nutritious meal plus a 30 minute
spiritual service.
Overnight Shelter
Many shelter guests are
working yet cannot afford a place on their own. The shelter is
open 365 days a year. An evening and breakfast meal is
included for those staying in the shelter. A shower and a change of clothing
is required. Case
management services are also provided.
Eagle's Nest
Eagle's Nest I is Rowan
County's first transitional housing meant to give families a chance
to get back on their feet. Single parents with one to two
children reside in four small efficiency apartments. Parents
are required to work, pay a program fee and attend various
self-improvement programs such as budgeting, counseling and
parenting classes. For those who succeed and qualify, a
habitat House may be approved.
Eagle's Nest II is the
newest transitional housing. The six units are reserved for
individuals who are homeless but working. Residents also must
pay a program fee and attend appropriate self-improvement programs. |
