2017 Volunteer Banquet

Last week, we celebrated our volunteers, please read what our Executive Director had to say and take a look at the photos from such a wonderful night.

"Last year, nearly 4,000 volunteers came forward to cook and serve meals, pack groceries, answer phone calls, interview clients in crisis, pull files, do laundry and perform many other important services.

It takes an incredible number of people to care for our neighbors in need.

We are humbled and thankful that you have answered God’s call to serve others at Rowan Helping Ministries.

Listen to these words: “The mission of Rowan Helping Ministries is to serve, through cooperative community action, our neighbors in Rowan County who are in crisis.” Our mission is to serve those in need and to do so through “cooperative community action.”

Now that is not a very warm and fuzzy way to describe what you do as volunteers. But you... and the churches, businesses and civic organizations you represent are so critical to us that you care called out as part of our mission in the community. You are at the core, more accurately, the heart of Rowan Helping Ministries.

When designing our volunteer brochure, Elizabeth on our staff, found and incorporated the following quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”

You make a tremendous difference in the lives of our most fragile citizens in their times of greatest need.

Thank you for your compassion, your humanity and your service to others."
